i’m looking to buy a house in CA, and i was wondering can i buy a house without an agen? i know you can sell without, but can someone please tell me if i can buy without? and if i can, what are the steps? thanks.

Yes, you can buy a house without a real estate agent. I’m not sure what you mean by what are the steps? There are numorous steps in buying a house that’s why its a good idea to use an agent. 1. Make an offer.

You can, but an agent makes things a lot easier.

You can make an offer on a house and apply for a loan.

An agent, though, explains all the fine print for you. They cover the ins and outs, make sure everything is legit. They handle all of the paper work, some even help you find a loan.

It is really worth it to go ahead and get an agent.

You CAN but its really not to your advantage since a buyers agent is paid for by the seller. Unless you have a "for sale by owner" house where they wont pay the agent, thats the only time I can see it benefiting you to not use one.

Yes you can, but why would you. A real estate agent would have your interests in mind, they know how to negotiate, they can recommend a price to offer, how to present an offer, how to fill all the paperwork that needs to be done, and the best part, you don’t pay them their commission, the seller does. So why would you want to buy without an agent?

If you are buying straight from the seller. make sure that you are aware of all the requirements that the seller required to disclose. Also, be sure you have a contract in place. We live in California and Californians love to sue.

If you are buying from a seller with a listing agent, then I suggest that you consult with a Realtor that you know and trust. Again, if you go into a sale with the listing agent doing all the work and becoming a dual agent, you best cover your end well. I will use the legal aspect. If you had a lawsuit against you for 100k, would want an attorney that is already representing the prosecution or would you want a lawyer that is there to defend you? Having the listing agent represent you could cost you more than having your own Realtor. The Listing agent is already looking out for the seller’s best interest, not yours.

    Yes you can.

    But….

What is the advantage of not using a real estate agent to help in your purchase?
